Uganda’s National Safe Motherhood Conference - Day 3

The final day of the 5th National Safe Motherhood Conference coincided with World Polio Day — a powerful reminder of what is possible when the world unites behind vaccines, innovation, and coordinated public health action.

The moment marked more than a reflection on past achievements; it was a renewed call for urgent acceleration to protect and build upon the gains made in maternal, newborn, and child health.

Global Progress Begins at the Last Mile

In his official closing remarks, Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services at the Uganda Ministry of Health, underscored the critical need to reach every child, combat misinformation, and sustain high immunization coverage to end polio once and for all.

He reminded participants that global health progress is not a question of possibility — but of sustained commitment, good governance, and effective delivery at the last mile. Achievements in global health are attainable only when commitments translate into measurable action.

BAMA’s Contribution: Innovation and Community at the Core

As part of the day’s impactful sessions, BAMA Foundation showcased community-driven and technology-enabled solutions that are transforming maternal and newborn health in Uganda.

Maria Tendo and Donald Kagulire presented two groundbreaking abstracts:

  • Mama Rescue Emergency Transportation System: A coordinated, lifesaving response connecting mothers facing obstetric emergencies to timely transport and skilled care.

  • Digital ANC Tracking Platform: A digital accountability tool ensuring that no expectant mother is lost in the health system, improving follow-up and continuity of care.

These innovations reaffirm BAMA Foundation’s belief that technology, partnerships, and community engagement are central to accelerating safe motherhood outcomes. Through these approaches, policy becomes practice, and commitment becomes measurable change — reaching every mother, everywhere, every time.

Recognizing Impact and Leadership

During the conference’s awarding ceremony, BAMA was specially recognised for its outstanding contribution to improving Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health services in the Greater Masaka region.

This recognition reflects BAMA’s consistent, community-grounded leadership and its unwavering commitment to ensuring that every mother and newborn not only survives but thrives.

When innovation meets community, and commitment turns into action — mothers live, children thrive, and nations grow stronger.
