2025 in Review: A Year of Learning, Growth, and Life-Saving Impact

As 2025 comes to an end, we are reflecting - not just on what we achieved, but on what this year taught us.

Maternal and newborn health work is never linear. Progress is made step by step, often quietly, through dedication, resilience, and trust: in communities, in health workers, and in systems that must work even under pressure.

This year challenged us. It stretched our team. And it reaffirmed why this work matters so deeply.

Here’s a look back at 2025 at Babies and Mothers Alive (BAMA) and the lessons we’re bringing into the year ahead.

2025: Month by Month

What 2025 Taught Us

As important as the milestones are, the lessons matter just as much.

1. People are the backbone of impact

Behind every safe birth is a midwife, a nurse, a program officer, a data analyst, a community volunteer. When we invest in people, their skills, confidence, and leadership, impact follows.

2. Simple solutions, well implemented, save lives

Not every solution needs to be complex or expensive.
This year reaffirmed that practical, evidence-based interventions (delivered consistently and with quality) can dramatically improve outcomes.

3. Systems matter more than single interventions

Lasting change happens when community engagement, facility care, referral systems, and data work together. Strengthening systems may take time, but it is the only path to sustainable impact.

4. Learning must be continuous

Monitoring, evaluation, research, and reflection are not “add-ons”, they are essential. Learning allowed us to adapt, improve, and share what works with others.

5. Hope grows when it is shared

Across districts, partners, and supporters, we saw that hope multiplies when people feel part of something larger: a shared commitment to saving lives.

6. The global health landscape is changing

The USAID disrupted the global health field. The philanthropy changed with unrestricted funding and collaboration becoming more important. Those organizations that survived are hopefully here to stay.

Looking Ahead to 2026

As we step into 2026, we do so with confidence and momentum.

The year ahead is about scaling what works: expanding proven maternal and newborn health programs, strengthening quality of care, and reaching more families across communities and health facilities.

We will continue to invest in people: supporting health workers and program teams through training, mentorship, and leadership development; because strong systems depend on skilled, motivated individuals.

Learning and evidence will remain central, guiding smarter decisions and continuous improvement, while partnerships and systems-building ensure this work is sustainable for the long term.

We enter 2026 energized, focused, and hopeful: committed to a future where every mother and newborn receives the care they deserve.

A Final Invitation

If you have supported BAMA this year - thank you.
If you are considering a year-end gift, your contribution will help us start 2026 with momentum, stability, and hope.

Together, we are building a future where no mother or baby is left behind.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
